“I Want to Homeschool But I Work Full-Time - What Now?”

Introduction:

Bismillah. Let’s talk about the quiet struggle so many Muslim mums are carrying.

You want to homeschool. You feel the pull. You’re not chasing perfection; just a life where your children are grounded in their faith, learning at their own pace, and nurtured by someone who actually sees them.

But then there’s the job.

The hours. The expectations. The bills.

And somewhere in between school runs, work deadlines, and folding laundry at midnight, the dream of home education feels… impossible.

I see you. I was you.

I remember standing in the kitchen one evening, my youngest clinging to my leg while I frantically tried to finish work and get dinner on the table. I knew I wanted out. I wanted a life that felt aligned with my values — where my children came first not just in theory, but in my actual day-to-day life.

But I had no idea where to begin.

So, is it even possible to homeschool while working?

Short answer: Yes - with a few key mindset shifts and a plan.

Here’s what I had to unlearn and relearn:

1. You don’t need to replicate school at home

Homeschooling isn’t about 6 hours of worksheets and rigid routines. It’s flexible. You can teach in the evenings. On weekends. In the car. Through life. Through stories. Learning is everywhere.

2. Part-time work or working from home is an option

It may take time, but shifting to part-time hours or starting a small business from home (even digital!) can create breathing room. I’ve done it. So have many sisters in this community. Start small. Start now.

3. You are not failing - you’re being called higher

If the overwhelm feels heavy, it’s not because you’re doing something wrong. It might just be that Allah is guiding you to pause… and re-align. That whisper you feel about homeschooling? Don’t ignore it. Honour it.
